The initial prototyping for the project was done under https://www.robertsmania.com/streamertracker After some careful consideration, we decided to go with simracingstreamers.com I have a number of other domains registered with Network Solutions and GoDaddy, but it always feels like buying a car trying to deal with the domain registrars. The website lists one price. You call and talk to the first level sales, and they offer you another price. You threaten to leave and suddenly they have another offer. But I always feel like its a hassle. Heck, I still remember when you simply filled out an email template and sent it to the internic and you got your domain - for free. Researching the contemporary options I did end up going with Cloudflare since it was cheap and easier than dealing with the other registrars. The one concession is that they require handling the DNS, which I usually do on my own but it wasnt a deal breaker for this project. |

I did setup a static IP address that only serves that domain for HTTP/HTTPS. No other ports or services are used and none of our other systems share resources with it. I dont want to go into too much detail lest someone consider that a challenge to try and poke at it, but I'm reasonably confident there isnt much exposed. If you are reading this and are the kind of person to see what there is to see - please let me know if you find anything I should fix. :) That afternoon everything was setup on the server and we were ready for the first user testing. Asking friends to experiment with the "Add Me!" and "opt-Out" flows. So far, so good. |
